Ireland’s Ring Of Kerry with Paddywagon Tours

The Ring of Kerry is one of Ireland’s most iconic drives, and no trip to The Emerald Isle is complete without a visit to the famous ring. Since I was traveling alone, and I didn’t rent a car, I figured that hopping on a guided tour with Paddywagon Tours would be the next best way to experience this famous adventure through County Kerry.

Ring Of Kerry Tour

Our group met shortly before 11am at the Paddywagon Office in Killarney town, and we were picked up by our big green Paddywagon bus shortly after. I actually happened to be on one of the smaller buses, so it was a nice intimate group. Our guide and driver, Rory, Paddywagon’s youngest driver at only 22 years old, introduced himself and gave us a brief overview of the day ahead, and then we were on our way.
Rory is a Kerry native, so he had plenty of knowledge about the area. The tour includes stops at all major Ring Of Kerry icons; The Red Fox Inn, The Dingle Peninsula, Waterville, Sneem Village, Ladies View, and the magnificent Torc Waterfall. We also stopped at a cafeteria in the afternoon for lunch.
While we were winding along the picturesque Irish coastline, Rory told us stories about all of the villages we were passing through, the history and culture of the area, and funny personal stories of his own.  The larger buses have free wifi, but we didn’t really miss it at all on our little coach because there was so much to see!
The stunning Dingle Peninsula
It was raining on and off on the day of our tour, so some of the views weren’t totally clear, but it was still absolutely beautiful.  The best thing about Ireland is that it’s stunning rain or shine.
We had such a relaxing day…allowing Rory to take care of the driving, listening to his stories and fun facts about the area, taking in the gorgeous views and stopping along the way to take photos. I was a bit nervous about renting a car and driving the Ring Of Kerry myself..and I’m so glad I didn’t have to. It’s a winding drive with lots of narrow passes,  so I had a better chance to enjoy the experience while letting someone else do the driving.
Ladies View – the second last stop on our tour
The national park around Torc Waterfall – unbelievable shades of green!
You never know what you’ll find along the Ring Of Kerry.  There were several statues and monuments, cute little shops and pubs, and even crazy things such as baby lambs and men with goats and donkeys…for a couple of euro, you can snap quite a few unique photos!
I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to see the most of County Kerry in a short amount of time. And at only €25, it’s a bargain! There are a few places I wish I’d had more time at – such as Torc Waterfall and Sneem Village – but all areas are easily accessible from Killarney if you do decide that you’d like to return!
The absolute highlight of my day.
